The wonderful advancements in technology that are enjoyed in the 21st century, have made many aspects of life much easier to shoulder. But, the drawback is that with all of these conveniences of modern life, there also comes a significant reduction in the physical activity that is necessary to get through a day. But, along with all the modern conveniences also comes a reduction in physical activity, making home gym fitness equipment popular for busy people.

Because technology now delivers so much to us with the simple push of a button or two, we are not often called upon to meet heavy physical demands in our regular, daily lives. While there are still many people who do have occupations that have them toiling and sweating, increasingly the average American worker does nothing more strenuous than changing the toner in the copier.

home gym equipment
Having some good home fitness equipment can help to offset this sedentary nature that so many people have become accustomed to in the new American lifestyle. This new, more stationary and slow-moving lifestyle has lead to a significant increase in obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other health concerns.

With the busy schedules that most people keep, it is increasingly difficult to find the time to escape from the rat-race and get to the gym. As stress escalates, people are inclined to want to stay in the familiar, comforting surroundings of their homes, giving rise to the increase in sales of home gym fitness equipment.

A good set up of home gym fitness equipment is one of the best things that a health-conscious person can do for themselves. Unlike the complex commercial fitness equipment that is used by the membership gyms, home gym exercise equipment is generally easier to use, is somewhat more compact to fit into the space requirements of a home and is usually low maintenance.

It is much easier to find a bit of free space in your home for one single item of home exercise equipment as opposed to different units to exercise different body parts. Choosing the right home gym fitness equipment for your needs can often be somewhat bewildering because there are so many choices and so many companies that claim they have the one-and-only best home exercise equipment that you can find.

Things become even more muddled when you turn on the television and see infomercials or shopping channels that pitch the latest and greatest at home fitness device you have ever seen. What is amazing is that almost weekly some new breakthrough in home fitness exercise equipment is promoted, making it difficult for the average person to know what to believe.

Best Yoga Retreat Places To Go

What better way to learn about the practice of yoga than by attending a special yoga retreat? Immerse yourself in the pious mindset, healthy diet habits, quietude and inspirational setting of a yoga center and leave with the fundamental knowledge required to continue on the path toward self-realization and building strength on your own. Other benefits of learning yoga include: feeling more energized, hormonal balance, better digestion, a stronger respiratory system, better posture and enhanced relaxation. Why not join the 16.5 million Americans who have already discovered the advantages of yoga practice?

Yoga retreat vacations are great for beginners and advanced practitioners alike. A Yoga instructor since 1997, Jillian Pransky says, “Many of my students are city dwellers. Their yoga is fit in between running in and out of busy streets and wedged into their busy workloads. They get little respite and often don’t get the dramatic effect they experience on retreat. Your body has more time to open, change, purify and cleanse in a retreat environment than in a daily practice.”

For young, budget-conscious couples, the ten-day Inspya Yoga Retreat in Bali starts at $1009. Stay at the Greenfield Bungalows amid rice fields, tropical gardens and monkey forests. Visit temples, Mount Agung volcano and coral reefs in your free time. Paint a mural, participate in Balinese dance, meditate, learn to cook, make an offering or a wood carving, get a massage, swim in a spring water swimming pool, eat in an open-air restaurant, learn Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and breathing techniques, or meet a traditional Balian healer. Loads of Aussies, Europeans and Americans flock here to find respite from daily stress.

All too often we leave our vacation feeling like we need another vacation from the grueling tourist’s pace we kept the entire time. Why not choose a relaxing, rejuvenating yoga retreat that will leave you feeling healthier, more well-rested and spiritually cleansed than ever before?

A History of Yoga and Pilates

Aside from being celebrities, what do Jennifer Aniston, Cindy Crawford, Hugh Grant, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Uma Thurman, Rod Stewart and Kristi Yamaguchi have in common? They’ve all hopped on the yoga and pilates trend for physical toning and spiritual relaxation!

Yoga and pilates are often lumped together as one. They both compliment a normal exercise routine by sculpting the body and improving strength, flexibility and coordination. They both involve stretching, slow deliberate and repetitive motions, regulated breathing processes and establishing an overall sense of wellbeing. In a fast-paced society full of various athletes, strength training and weight machines are an American pastime in many gyms. Therefore, many modern Western instructors and athletic trainers work pilates into their yoga practice to change things up a bit.

Clear differences between yoga and pilates include some of the following: First, yoga is an ancient Indian practice that dates back approximately 5,000 years, whereas pilates is an adaptation of yoga dating back eighty years to a German athlete, Joseph Pilate. Secondly, in addition to physical activity, yoga is an entire holistic program that encompasses diet, meditation, breathing techniques, religious edict and a moral code; Pilates is simply a form of exercise and body sculpting technique. Thirdly, yoga aims to unite mind and body, as well as cleanse the body of toxins, while pilates is fashioned to strengthen, define and improve posture. Additionally, in yoga, you are taught to inhale and exhale through the nose, whereas pilates employs the traditional athletic mode of breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth while performing an action. Lastly, yoga can generally be done with just a mat (although sometimes props are used), while instructors ensure everyone’s in proper form; pilates, on the other hand, has specific machinery designed to assist practitioners.

Advanced students of yoga and pilates will find it advantageous to visit a yoga center or fitness club to further their goals and study. Mentoring and working with advanced equipment can really expedite body sculpting or enlightenment, depending on what is being actively sought. For beginners who are unsure if they’re willing to commit just yet, there are a multitude of pilates and yoga videos to try at home. A couple of recommended pilates videos are: Denise Austin – Hit The Spot, Jennifer Kries – Pilates Method, Karen Voight – Core Essentials, Pilates For Dummies and Kathy Smith – Pilates For Abs. A couple of recommended yoga videos are: Basic Yoga Workout For Dummies, Living Yoga – AM/PM, Ali Macgraw Yoga Mind & Body, Shiva Rea – Yoga Shakti and Kundalini Yoga: With Grace and Strength.

It may surprise you to learn that Yoga dates back to 3300-1700 B.C.E. and has long been a practice of Buddhists, Hindus and other Eastern religions. But what should not be surprising the tremendous benefits that this form of exercise and meditation can bring to your life. Working professionals, students, home-makers and the retired alike are finding how wonderful they feel after participating. The sense of calm that prevails as well as the satisfaction of muscles well worked all make Yoga the perfect blend of philosophy, religion and exercise. Even if you do not practice the spiritual aspects of this ancient practice, you can still benefit. Click here to see more: Yoga Positions For Beginners and at Yoga Clothes also at Yoga Classes

Western Researchers are currently studying the healing effects of beta-endorphins released during yoga and meditation that may be curing people of everything from asthma, ADHD and high blood pressure to diabetes, multiple sclerosis and cancer. “Ayudervedic healing,” as it’s called, has been in practice for over 5,000 years but didn’t arrive in the United States until the 1970s. The healing is based on three areas — diet, herbs and meditation yoga — particularly “Sahaja Yoga.”

Sahaja yoga and meditation has been taught worldwide since 1970. Sahaja Yoga is well known for treating ailments and diseases. Additionally, the practice was introduced to New York City’s Rikers Island prisoners to help them find social, psychological and spiritual healing. To translate from Sanskrit, “Saha” means “spontaneous” and “ja” means “born within.” Yoga, of course, means “union.” The end goal is kundalini (or spiritual awakening), as well as a unity and collective awakening among every member of society.

Students of this branch will study the three vertical energy channels within the human body: the sun channel (governing our thought processes), the parasympathetic / nervous system channel (governing our body processes) and the moon channel (governing our emotions). In addition to these three channels, millions of chakras (literally translated from Sanskrit to mean “wheels” or energy centers) are swirling around us, keeping the channels in motion. Chakras can vary from religion to religion, but Sahaja Yoga focuses on several in its yoga and meditation: the crown chakra (pituitary gland / consciousness), the third eye chakra (pineal gland / sleep and awakening), the throat chakra (thyroid / growth and maturity), the heart chakra (thymus / stress and wellbeing), the solar plexus chakra (pancreas / digestion and energy), the sacral chakra (groin / sexuality and reproduction) and the root chakra (adrenal gland / basic fight or flight instincts and kundalini awakening).

Another study is the Raja Yoga tradition (the “king” of yoga or “royal path”), which is heavily steeped in spirituality. Practitioners believe in a serious code based upon self-restraint, quietude, concentration, regulation of breathing, uniting body and mind through action, withdrawing from the senses and studying religious texts. Often retreats are offered (by places like the Margaret Austin Retreat Center in Texas or the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California) to help students immerse themselves in a new way of thinking. Students will learn about the Eightfold Path and the seven chakras, in addition to yamas and niyamas (code of conduct and religious observances, respectively).

For more information on yoga and meditation, look up SahajaYoga.org for extensive information about the methods and philosophy behind the practice. For information on Raja Yoga, prospective students can run a studio search at Yoga.com. For therapeutic yoga, ask your doctor or go to IAYT.org and click on the “Find a Yoga Therapist” tab in the upper right hand corner.

Practicing Yoga and Pilates is nothing new. Its been around for centuries but has enjoyed a revival of interest in the past few decades. It is not just naturalists, Buddhists or Hindus practicing, it is now a mainstream form of exercise and relaxation. Get Rid Of Cellulite With Essential Oils

Cellulite is often misunderstood. The appearance is often likened to that of cottage cheese or is given the nice little term dimpled. Regardless of what you want to call it, cellulite is simply subcutaneous fat deposits.

Regardless of popular thought cellulite is not a “fat” problem, in fact it has more to genetics. Individuals are predisposed as to how their body will store its fat. This is the reason why you will see thin individuals with cellulite and over weight individuals who do not appear to have any cellulite at all. In addition environmental damage, aging and hormones are also thought to play a role in the formation of cellulite.

If you are looking for a natural solution for cellulite than essential oils may be an option. Many essential oils may be safely used to help reduce the appearance of cellulite. The applications that are most commonly used are bathing and massage. For a bath use approximately ten drops of your chosen essential oil in your water, do not however add the oil to your bath until you have finished running your water. Ensure that you agitate the water with your hand before getting in to ensure that the oil is not sitting in a clump on the surface.

The other application that can be used is by making up a mixture that can be massaged into the affected area. To make a massage oil for this purpose simply add two to three drops of your chosen essential oil and add it to one ounce of your favorite carrier oil and enjoy. Regardless which application you choose, use regularly.

1. The aroma of Tangerine essential oil can be described as sweet, fresh, comforting and lively. This essential oil is extracted from the outer peel of the fruit by cold expression. Other citrus essential oils that can be applied for this therapeutic use are lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit.

3. Wintergreen essential oil has a warm minty scent which is recognized world wide. This essential oil is extracted by steam or water distillation from the leaves of the plant Gaultheria procumbens.

4. Oregano is one of the most popular spices found in kitchens however Oregano essential oil is one of the most popular oils in aromatherapy. This oil is extracted by steam distillation from the dried herb and leaves.

5. Juniper Berry essential oil is believed to be one of the first aromatics used dating back to ancient civilizations. This versatile essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the dried or slightly dried ripened fruit of the plant Juniperus communis.

6. Pine essential oil has a very recognizable scent and is often associated with winter and the holidays. This essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the needles, twigs and buds of Pinus sylvestris. Do not use oil from the dwarf pine Pinus pumilio.

There are many reasons to take a yoga class, but the main one for most Americans is to find relaxation and improve health — not just muscular, but cardiovascular and mental health as well. Yoga for pregnant women can make all the difference in the mother’s mindset. When combating fatigue, weight gain, tenderness, swelling, mood swings, cravings, constipation, leg cramps and headaches, yoga practice can be the only respite.

Pregnant women practice yoga for physical benefits. For instance, yoga practice can teach techniques that will be helpful during labor, such as breathing and relieving tension around the cervix and birth canal. Additionally, prenatal physicians recommend combining a light cardiovascular exercise (like walking) with a relaxing, muscle-toning exercise (like yoga) to maintain your physique, in spite of the intense cravings and normal weight gain associated with pregnancy.

Other pregnant women practice yoga for mental benefits. For one, it can be a great support to meet other women going through the same thing you are. Also, there is much emphasis on focusing on the moment and deriving happiness from each and every day, which can be vital when your hormones are out of whack. Yoga has been known to stimulate beta-endorphins, which also brings comfort and a sense of relief.

You may be wondering which yoga poses are safe for you and your baby. In the first trimester, standing positions will help circulation, strengthening of the legs and increased energy. Poses like “the mountain,” “the triangle,” “the warrior,” “the tree yoga,” “the standing side stretch” and “the standing spread leg forward bend” will all provide relaxing and satisfying stretches. During this time, you may perform poses that require you to lay on your back, but you should avoid back and belly poses into the next trimester. In the second and third trimesters, practice time should be cut down considerably to avoid fatigue or overdoing it. Don’t hold poses too long and use a chair or wall for balance, if necessary. Remember to put pressure on the shoulders and back, but never the abdomen. The sitting poses, plus more emphasis on breathing techniques are most practical towards the end of your pregnancy. Try poses like “the hero,” “the sage twist” and “the cobbler.”

Diabetes and the pH miracle diet

hypoglycemia insulin

Diabetes is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Even more chilling, it is the first leading cause of death for children. Type II diabetes is a result of the rising rates of obesity in the country. Today, one in 12 adults are afflicted with the disease. This means that over 16 million people have the disorder, with 6 million of them walking around undiagnosed and unaware of their sensitive pancreas insulin condition.

Poor nutrition, obesity, high stress, no physical activity, and increased aging is a potent recipe for type II diabetes. All of these conditions can be traced back to one source…high acidity. Over-acid lifestyles and food choices have negative impacts on health, which is shown by the rapidly increasing diabetes rates in the country.

Diabetes is an old disorder. It has been known about for thousands of years and yet it is only today that it has become an epidemic. Part of the problem is that the nature of diabetes is a mystery, even to educated adults. People do not understand what gestational diabetes does in the body and how it’s metabolism affects the health. Even current medical science has some misconceptions about the true nature of the disorder.

For example, many in the medical establishment believe that obesity is the cause of diabetes. Consuming high amounts of simple sugars and complex carbohydrates is a direct result of obesity. The high rate of consumption of these products (which are made from the acidifying foods of sugar and processed wheat) leads to high acidity in the body. The body attempts to deal with the increase of waste acids by using fat to neutralize the acid. The fat is then stored as a safeguard for the cells in the body.

There is also a belief that insulin is needed to regulate blood sugar levels in the bodies. The term “insulin dependent” was created in the 1950s to create the impression that muscle and fat require insulin to take up glucose (the sugars created by eating high carbohydrate and sugary foods). However, current studies show that many different things in the body transport glucose. The cell respiration process requires glucose. The body makes sure that the cells receive that, no matter how much insulin in present.

A highly acidic lifestyle and food choices are the causes of insulin resistance. It occurs in the liver, muscles and fat cells. The body’s organs and tissues are stimulated by using stimulants such as chocolate, caffeine, carbs, and sugar. As the body is stimulated, the cells begin to release their glucose and this leads to the elevated levels of blood sugar that people see when they do blood sugar testing. The body cells are disorganized and the highly acidic state can lead to a host of problems overtime including premature aging, high blood pressure, inhibition of the release of glycogen from the liver, and the inhibition of the burning of fat.

Over stimulation of the bodily tissues through acidic foods can cause a lot of damage, and type II diabetes is just a symptom of an acidic lifestyle. In order to bring the body back into balance, you must include alkalizing green vegetables, green drinks and good fats in your diet. Plant proteins from grains and legumes also help restore the body’s previous homeostasis. The pH miracle diet includes a balanced plan for eating with your body, instead of against it. With the application of the principles of the diet, controlling and preventing diabetes is a simple matter of alkalized eating and living.

Understanding Graviola Extract

Graviola, also known as soursop, guanabana, or Brazilian Paw Paw, is an evergreen tree found in tropical areas of North and South America. The heart-shaped fruit, along with leaves, roots, and stems, has been used in traditional herbal medicine in native cultures for many years. Graviola is a fruit tree native to North and South America and the Caribbean, where it is known by such names as Paw-Paw, Soursop, and Guanabana. The species native to South America is the Guanabana tree, and it is prized for its fruit, which is used in drinks, ice cream, and marmalades. Graviola is a small, upright evergreen tree growing 5 to 6 meters in height with large dark green and glossy leaves. It is indigenous to most of the warmest tropical areas in South and North America including the Amazon.

Graviola should only be taken as a complementary therapy upon the advice of your physician. Graviola products (capsules and tinctures) are becoming more widely available in the U.S. As one of Graviola’s mechanisms of action is to deplete ATP energy to cancer cells, combining it with other supplements and natural products which increase or enhance cellular ATP may reduce the effect of Graviola..

Graviola seeds demonstrated active anti-parasitic properties in a 1991 study, and a leaf extract showed to be active against malaria in two other studies (in 1990 and 1993). The leaves, root, and seeds of Graviola demonstrated insecticide properties, with the seeds demonstrating strong insecticidal activity in an early 1940 study. Graviola is indigenous to warm tropical areas in the Americas, including the Amazon. It produces a 6-to-9 inch, heart-shaped edible fruit, yellow-green in color, with white flesh. Graviola has a long, rich history of use in herbal medicine as well as a lengthy recorded indigenous use. In the Peruvian Andes, a leaf tea is used for catarrh (inflammation of mucous membranes) and the crushed seed is used to kill parasites.

Graviola Max combines both species of graviola (Annona muricata and Annona montana) to provide 12 different types of acetogenins,108 distinct powerful chemicals in all. Graviola is thought to relieve temporary depression and nervous conditions. It acts as a nervine that strengthens the functional activity of the nervous system and performs as a relaxant, easing the discomforts of nervous disorders, stress and anxiety. Graviola Capsules are a group of Annonaceous Acetogenins which are only found in the Annonaceae family to which Graviola belongs.

Graviola extract produces these natural compounds in its leaf and stem, bark, and fruit seeds. Three separate research groups have confirmed that these chemicals have significant antitumorous properties and selective toxicity against various types of cancer cells (without harming healthy cells) publishing eight clinical studies on their findings. Graviola tea taken orally or applied on the skin is also used as an insect repellent. Graviola seeds demonstrated active antiparasitic properties in a 1991 study, and a leaf extract showed to be active against malaria in two other studies in 1990 and 1993. The leaves, root, and seeds of Graviola demonstrated insecticidal properties with the seed demonstrating strong insecticidal activity in a early 1940 study.
